See Them as Capable

If you want your children to do hard things, see them as capable.

Especially when they’re young, your children believe what you believe. So, when you view them as incredibly ‘able’, they are then empowered and feel this way.

Your child does not need you to solve their problems for them, or make sure they are never upset. Clearing the path for them to try and make sure they are happy all the time is actually not the job. Trying to stop or save them from discomfort is also not it.

Because you love them so much, you naturally want to do this - take away their struggle. I get it.

However, what they need instead is for you to believe they can do hard things and feel hard feelings and know that you will be right there to support them through.

This builds resilience, confidence and trust (mostly in themselves - the best kind!).
